Stories of Change was an international documentary project created for ENND – European Network for Nonviolence and Dialogue, in collaboration with PDCS. The project explored six initiatives from across Europe working with some of the most complex challenges facing contemporary societies: social cohesion, dialogue, inclusion, civic participation and value-based conflicts.
My role began long before the cameras arrived. For each organisation, I travelled independently to conduct preparatory interviews, understand the local context and identify the deeper story behind the project. Only after this research phase did we return with the production team to film the documentaries.
One of the main creative challenges was explaining abstract and often highly complex social issues in a way that would remain accessible to a broader audience. To address this, I developed a format that combined documentary storytelling with animated explainer sequences. Each film opens with a visual introduction designed to provide context, introduce the issue and help viewers understand why the topic matters before entering the story itself.
Over more than six months of production, we travelled over 10,000 kilometres, produced six documentary films and created a complete English-language video campaign for an international audience.
The project strengthened my belief that communication becomes meaningful when complexity is translated without being simplified. People do not engage with ideas because they are important. They engage when they finally understand them.
